TR Autos, Yeovil, Somerset
A full strip and reclad of an industrial building in Yeovil for a returning Tekclad client replacing a failing asbestos cement roof with Tata Trisomet 333 composite panels, resolving chronic gutter overflow with a fully rebuilt boundary wall gutter system, and delivering a significantly improved working environment throughout.

Industrial Roof Replacement — Complete Strip & Re-Clad, 2026
T R Autos is a returning Tekclad client. We had previously completed works at their Tapstone Road site. When their industrial building in Yeovil developed persistent problems, they knew who to call. The property is a steel portal frame building that had been roofed in profiled asbestos cement a material that, while common in its day, had long since reached the end of its serviceable life. Water ingress was a recurring problem, the gutters were undersized and prone to overflow, and the envelope was offering no meaningful thermal performance. A patch-and-repair approach was no longer viable. A full strip and replacement was the right answer.
THE BRIEF
The client needed the roof replaced entirely and the chronic gutter problems resolved once and for all. As a business owner operating from the building, minimal disruption to day-to-day operations was important. Tekclad were appointed on the strength of the relationship built at Tapstone Road, with the brief covering full removal of the existing asbestos cement roof, replacement with a modern composite system, and a complete gutter upgrade to eliminate the persistent overflow and drainage issues.
The Challenge
The most technically demanding element of the project was the gutter replacement. The existing gutters ran along the boundary wall of the building, and upgrading to a larger-capacity system required far more than a straightforward swap. The Tekclad team removed the existing eaves-line purlins, cut off the original purlin cleats, fabricated and installed new purlin cleats directly to the structural steel frame, refitted the purlins, and realigned everything to suit the new gutter profile. Critically, all of this had to be completed within a single working day to avoid leaving the building exposed overnight.
As with any older industrial building, the initial survey required careful interpretation. The structure had evolved over time and the as-built geometry needed thorough measurement and redesign before fabrication could begin. Everything fitted correctly first time, without issue.
Scope of Works
Full removal of the existing asbestos cement roof covering and gutter system, followed by complete re-clad across approximately 400 m² with Tata Trisomet 333 composite panels. New boundary wall gutter system with Plygene lining, insulated valley gutters, insulated parapet walls and capping details, stainless steel fixings throughout, and full flashings and finishing details. External scaffolding with safety netting in place throughout. Completed within a two-week programme.
Materials & Specification
- Tata Trisomet 333 composite roof panels — 120 mm, Goosewing Grey HPS200 Ultra finish
- Plygene gutter linings by HD Sharman — boundary wall gutters
- Insulated valley gutters and insulated boundary wall gutters
- New purlin cleats fabricated and installed directly to structural steel frame
- Stainless steel fixings throughout
- Full flashings and capping details to parapet walls
- External scaffolding with safety netting
The Outcome
The transformation is significant. A building that had long suffered from a failing roof and chronic gutter problems now has a fully upgraded envelope meeting modern thermal standards. The new Trisomet 333 panels are bright internally, which has visibly improved the working environment for everyone on site. The oversized gutters positioned for easy future access have resolved the drainage issues permanently. The client was very pleased with the result, noting the significant transformation the work made to their working premises.
