Weymouth company makes £340K investment to enhance capabilities

Tek Clad, a Dorset-based specialist in roofing and cladding for commercial and industrial buildings, has invested £340,000 in two state-of-the-art telescopic handlers.

Operated by Tek Clad’s fully trained team, the new machines will enhance speed, safety and precision on projects, supporting their goals of business expansion.

Tek Clad Managing Director Ian Hambidge explains:

“This investment is a game-changer for us. With these additions, Tek Clad can now carry out all lifting operations in-house without the need to hire equipment or subcontractors – something rare in our industry.

“This is an exciting time for the business. We’re setting a new benchmark for professionalism, efficiency and in-house capability, opening the door to more clients and larger projects.”

Two advanced Merlo machines, selected for their robust lifting capabilities and precision handling, were delivered to Tek Clad’s Weymouth headquarters in early February.

The Merlo 40:13 Plus Telehandler is a compact machine with a 12.5m reach and a four-tonne capacity. The Merlo 50:30 Plus Rotating Telehandler is a larger model with a 30m reach and 360-degree rotation, eliminating the need for repositioning. It is also equipped with a fly winch, man basket, and remote controls, enhancing operational flexibility and safety.

Tek Clad has a fully trained, directly employed team operating both new machines. Among them are a set of Appointed Persons – operatives who have undertaken additional training, allowing them to be responsible for planning and executing lifting operations. The team also includes crane supervisors and slinger/banksmen, responsible for directing the safe movement of heavy machinery on sites.

Tek Clad has been serving clients across Dorset, Somerset, Hampshire and beyond for 15 years. This latest investment in cutting-edge equipment and staff training reflects Tek Clad’s commitment to growth and excellence, adds Ian:

“Having our own telescopic handlers means increased efficiency and greater flexibility. Not only are we providing a safer working environment for our team, but we can deliver even better results for our clients – completing projects faster while maintaining our exacting standards and quality of finish.”

Founded in 2010, Tek Clad celebrates its 15th anniversary this year. The small but highly skilled team, with more than 100 years’ collective experience, specialises in upgrading or replacing commercial roofs and cladding, improving energy efficiency and helping clients reduce their carbon footprint.

Placing a high value on training and professional accreditation, the management team hold CSCS cards and are members of the Institute of Roofing. Tek Clad is also a member of the National Federation of Roofing Contractors, including the Roofing Competent Person Scheme, RIDBA (Rural and Industrial Design and Building Association), and holds Safe Contractor and Constructionline gold accreditations. The company holds Safe Contractor approval and is SafePQQ Gold Standard accredited.
